Rural Inequalities - evaluating approaches to overcome disparities-International Conference

Overview

Growing inequalities is one of the greatest threats to development effectiveness and social solidarity. This is recognized in the Agenda 2030 commitment to “leave no one behind” by eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions, combating inequality and fostering social inclusion. Realizing this vision requires reaching the "last mile" of the poorest and most vulnerable people living in remote rural areas.

This conference therefore sets out to explore critical questions regarding whether strategies and programs that aim to eradicate rural poverty reduce disparities within rural areas. Despite the many interventions designed to reduce rural poverty, few have measured their impact on reducing inequalities within rural areas. Specifically, this conference seeks to examine approaches to rural poverty reduction that have had a redistributive impact on four main areas of inequality in rural areas: Resources, Resilience, Relationships and Rights.

Conference participants include senior representatives from leading international organizations in the evaluation of development; technical staff from bilateral and multilateral development and humanitarian organizations; researchers from academic and policy institutions; government officials; civil society organizations; and the private sector.
