Institution Background

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the specialized programme in the United Nations (UN) system
with a mandate to promote sustainable urbanization and human settlements development. The agency fulfills its mission and objectives through its normative and operational work at the global, regional, national and local levels. It also leads and coordinates the monitoring and reporting on global progress in the implementation of the New Urban Agenda and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11 in collaboration with other United Nations entities and other partners.

Evaluation Function

UN-Habitat evaluates its work to assess how well its interventions are achieving the intended results and how effectively they are contributing to broad development goals. This is done by assessing what is achieved and by making recommendations that feed into policy, programme/ project development and implementation. An independent Evaluation Unit was established in January 2012 to further improve and strengthen the evaluation function.
