Evaluation of FAO's Contribution in the Republic of the Niger
Overview
This evaluation assessed FAO’s strategic positioning in the Republic of the Niger and results achieved in contributing to the three priority areas identified in the Country Programming Framework 2011-2015: strengthening vulnerable populations’ resilience to food and nutrition insecurity; increasing, diversifying and promoting agricultural, pastoral, forestry and fishery production; and developing capacity of institutions in the rural sector. It found that during the period, FAO successfully introduced and facilitated adoption of several innovations and new approaches, including the dissemination of farmer field schools, development of the warrantage, promotion of access to inputs by introducing grouped orders and setting up input stores and spreading of the Dimitra listeners’ clubs. The evaluation notes limitations in the integration of emergency and development interventions and recommends that FAO build on its past achievements in the country to propose integrated approaches for strengthening resilience, continue to promote good practices and disseminate lessons learned.
