The aim of this review was to understand factors associated with the achievement of Universal Child Immunization (UCI) and to assess elements critical to the sustainability of immunization programmes since 1990. The specific objectives were:
- Identify conditions within UNICEF, other donor organizations, and counterparts in governments that would improve the design and implementation of immunization programmes with regard to sustainability.
- Identify lessons learned about the sustainability of immunization programmes that have broad applicability for developing expanded primary care and, more specifically, achieving mid-decade and year 2000 goals.
