This report is a Terminal Evaluation of the UNEP Project ‘Strengthening Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) for initiating clean-up from oil contamination in Ogoniland’ implemented between December 2018 and December 2023. The project's overall development goal was to support HYPREP to increase its mobilization efforts towards environmental remediation in Ogoniland. The project’s intended long-term impact was the reduction of environmental degradation linked to oil pollution and community health and the creation of livelihoods in agriculture and fisheries in Ogoniland. The evaluation sought to assess project performance (in terms of relevance, effectiveness and efficiency), and determine outcomes and impacts (actual and potential) stemming from the project, including their sustainability. The evaluation has two primary purposes: (i) to provide evidence of results to meet accountability requirements and (ii) to promote operational improvement, learning, and knowledge sharing through results and lessons learned among UNEP, the Federal Government of Nigeria, and HYPREP.
