Evaluation of Integrated Management Child Illness (IMCI)
Overview
There is limited information and evidence on the quality of IMCI program implementation, operational constraints, facilitating factors and its effectiveness in improving the coverage to meet Sudan specific needs for child health services and to respond to the high newborn and under 5 mortality rates.
The evaluation aims to:
1. Provide impartial and independent evidence to inform the development of a country specific guidance to strength the existing investment and further scale up of the IMCI programme. The evaluation findings and recommendations will be used to strengthen the health system through increasing access to essential medicines, strengthening supply chain management, increasing healthcare financing, improving coordination, partnerships, leadership & management, referral pathways for a patient, child-oriented health system.
2. Contribute to the development of a road map by the Federal Ministry of Health for building the capacity of the health sector to provide high quality IMCI services at PHC facilities.
3. Provide the evidence for the development of a costed multi-year IMCI action plan and generate lessons learned and recommendations to improve program coverage and quality with respect to whether the IMCI programme implementation is fit for purpose and strategically well positioned to respond to national needs
