The main purpose of the evaluation was to capture the lessons learnt-strengths
and weaknesses of the pilot project so that SSHE can be successfully scaled up
to cover 315 secondary schools in 68 upazilas during the 1st phase of SHEWAB.
To serve this purpose, the following assignments were undertaken: (i) review of
SSHE strategy in secondary schools and evaluation of instructional materials
such as textual material, training manual, Teachers’ Guide and planning manual
for relevance, user friendliness, and appropriateness, (ii) review of student
brigade activities in school and communities including its formation and
coverage, and if SB members faced any problem during community activities,
(iii) examine whether construction of latrine blocks could be done as per
design, any difficulty faced during construction and whether has easy access to
the facility, (iv) assessment of community involvement in key SSHE activities
such as school planning process and prospect of sustainability, (v) assessment
of preliminary impact of SSHE program and (vi) identification of
recommendations for the improvement of SSHE project in secondary schools.
