An evaluation of the Women Network activities was carried out in 1996. During
the 1999 annual review, it was agreed upon to undertake another external
evaluation to assess the impacts in the fight against dracunculosis and prepare
for the round 2001-2005 of the UNICEF Country Program of cooperation. This
evaluation was then earmarked in the year 2000 action plan of the
Water/Sanitation/Environment UNICEF Country Program.
The evaluation aimed at measuring the input of the Women networks to the Water
and Sanitation Program in endemic zones of dracunculosis (guinea worm).
Specific objectives:
* Assess the knowledge acquired by women participating in the training on
fighting guinea worm, water, sanitation and hygiene;
* Assess the impact of the networks on their community in the above mentioned
domains;
* Assess the types of relationship existing between the women networks and the
local services of the Ministry of agriculture (operation, level of involvement);
* Draft recommendations to improve implementation of the Women networks
project.
