Real time evaluation of the WASH in schools strategy

Overview

Como parte de la respuesta de UNICEF en Ecuador ante la crisis y las consecuencias por la COVID 19, se han realizado diferentes intervenciones en búsqueda del cierre de la brecha de acceso a servicios WASH en las escuelas, tanto a nivel de generación de política pública, monitoreo y dotación de servicios. En concreto, se han realizado las siguientes intervenciones entre el 2020 y 2022:

Entrega de kits WASH (lavamanos portátil, bidones de 20 litros con grifo, pastillas potabilizadoras, jabón líquido, alcohol 70%, mascarillas, termómetro) a más de 10,000 estudiantes de 132 Instituciones Educativas rurales en Esmeraldas (Atacames (20), Eloy Alfaro (76), Esmeraldas (19) y Muisne (17)), para facilitar el retorno a clases presenciales en el contexto de la emergencia sanitaria.

La entrega de kits WASH, se realizó en coordinación con MINEDUC en las primeras dos semanas del mes de agosto de 2021.

Mejora de la infraestructura WASH en 64 Instituciones Educativas rurales, llegando a más de 18,000 estudiantes en Pichincha (Cayambe, 31), Esmeraldas (Eloy Alfaro, 2 y Esmeraldas, 5), Imbabura (Ibarra, 5, Cotacachi, 5 y Otavalo, 9), Manabí (Manta, 1 y Sucre, 2), Santo Domingo (Santo Domingo, 2) Sucumbíos (Putumayo, 2).

Mejora de la infraestructura WASH en 10 Instituciones Educativas urbanas, llegando a 12,000 estudiantes en (Cuenca (2), Guayaquil (2), Ibarra (1), Manta (2), Otavalo (1) y Quito (2)) . La implementación se desarrolló en el periodo comprendido entre agosto de 2021 y mayo de 2022.

Implementación de señalética WASH en 50 Instituciones Educativas urbanas, llegando a más de 70,000 estudiantes en Cuenca (10), Guayaquil (10), Quito (10), Ibarra (5), Manta (4), Otavalo (3), Portoviejo (4), Pedernales (2), Cotacachi (1) y Antonio Ante (1).

Evaluar esta estrategia es importante con el propósito de mejorar la implementación de la misma y responder mejor al fenómeno de El Niño.
